Learning Through Experience. Meeting Community Needs.

The Sarbanes Center helps students gain real world experience. We connect you to hands-on, real-world learning experiences combining your interests with all fields of study to experiences with businesses, government agencies, schools and nonprofit organizations.

Having experience can be an advantage as you pursue your educational and employment goals. Through the Sarbanes Center, students can:

Intern: Gain on-the-job work experience related to your major while working with an employer mentor and a faculty advisor.

Research: Learn about survey design, public outreach and results analysis by collecting public opinion data for the county, community groups and clients.

Travel: Take courses led by AACC faculty in domestic and international locations.

Volunteer through service-learning: Serve your community and make a difference to gain a better understanding of your course work.

Sarbanes - For Business and Community Members

The Sarbanes Center welcomes the opportunity to build sustainable partnerships with businesses, government agencies, schools and nonprofit organizations to engage AACC students in meaningful experiences in the community. Partner of the Year Project

The Sarbanes Center Partner of the Year project brings together all of the resources of the center in a year-long collaboration to make a greater impact in the community. A community partner is selected through an application process, and community-based activities are designed to engage students in outstanding and relevant real-world learning experiences while also meeting the needs of the community partner. Our Partners of the Year include:

FY17:  Hope for All

FY16:  Hospice of the Chesapeake

FY15:  Rebuilding Together

FY14:  Centro de Ayuda

FY13:  Partners in Care

Senator Sarbanes

The Sarbanes Center was created as a tribute to former Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, the longest-serving senator in Maryland history, for his support of higher education and his service to Maryland communities. Anne Arundel Community College seeks to replicate the Senator's dedication to meeting community needs by strengthening curriculum to develop engaged citizens.
